The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominees for its Class of 2014. In alphabetical order:
Eight of the acts have been nominated before, but it's a first time for the remaining eight. The first-time nominees are Peter Gabriel (as a solo artist; he is already in the Hall as a member of Genesis), Hall and Oates, Nirvana, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, Link Wray, Yes and The Zombies.
Voting will be done by more than 600 people from the music industry -- musicians, historians, record company staffers -- as well as (for the second year) fans. Fan voting begins tomorrow (Wednesday) through December 10th at RockHall.com/vote, RollngStone.com and USAToday.com. The Top 5 artists selected by the public will constitute a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2014 inductees.
To be eligible for induction an act had to release its first recording at least 25 years ago.
The Class of 2014 will be announced in December and inducted in April in New York. The exact date, location and time have not yet been announced, although it won't be in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, site of all the New York ceremonies. The ceremony will air on HBO in May.
