This Iconic Twin Cities Statue Is No More

Part of my first job in radio was to decorate The Mermaid's nightclub with balloons. I had to haul a heavy helium tank on a dolly past rough thresholds at the entrance every week. I was a customer in the supper club a handful of times. But growing up in the northern suburbs, I used to pass The Mermaid's Mermaid on Highway 10 quite frequently.

It reminded me of a different time. And in today's environment, I'm not sure something like this could ever be replicated.

RIP, Mermaid!
